Almost a Birthday

Yes the title is true!  It is almost a Birthday.... MY birthday.  I am 4 days away from my birthday and I have been celebrating for the past couple of days.... So I have had multiple dinners with friends, many pieces of cakes and tonight I am going to a basketball game.

I am not home yet... I will be home soon (just a few more days- actually I could be home anytime between Tuesday-Friday.  and I am really looking forward to seeing my friends and family.  I started Christmas shopping- 2 out of the 3 gifts that I had to buy have been purchased and put in the mail!

I wish that I had a better update for you.....  hang in there with me!

Remember December

I was checking out all of my favorite blogs and decided that I had neglected mine long enough!  In my Wendy Williams Voice (HowYouDoin!)

The pictures were all Christmas related!  'Tis the Season to be Jolly!  The Gingerbread House was made by a few students here at the J-O-B!  They were very proud of the house and I must admit that all of the houses looked beautiful and smelled great!  When I was in Phoenix, my brother was at home doing the usual- putting up the Christmas tree!  He texted me a picture of his hard work.  I sent him the picture of the last Christmas tree and told him mine was prettier!  He didn't like that too much!

I have not started Christmas shopping and the little shopping that I need to do has to be done soon!  Because I have spent so much dinero on plane tickets, I am not buying much for loved ones.  I can't afford it!  My goal is to put something in the mail to my niece and nephew and some small things for others.

A few have asked how long I was in PHX and what I did.....
I enjoyed the 75-80 degree weather!  That is what I did! For 4 days!  My Uncle, who is my mom's youngest brother, picked me up from the Airport!  We chatted about the family and he quickly told me that he had bought his wife a Kindle Fire for Christmas!  It would be arriving in the mail any day.  I told him way to go.  We relaxed at his house before my Aunt came home from work and fixed dinner.  She started chatting about Christmas shopping and said that she had ordered herself a Kindle Fire that was on its was to their house.  I said nothing.  My Uncle chatted with me later and said he wasn't happy about the situation.  I talked to my aunt later and said maybe she should wait until Christmas.  The next day, my cousin took me to lunch and around town.  We went to the Cardinals football stadium and enjoyed Coldstone icecream while looking at the Christmas tree outside.  The were having a mini holiday market outside complete with a Foodtruck.  I was sad that I had just had lunch because the jerk chicken was smelling heavenly.  My cousin was sooo sweet!  He treated me like the sister that he never had!  Dinner with my fam was great and we even played family games!

On Thanksgiving Day, my Aunt and I went to Old Navy before breakfast!  I didn't buy much.  We returned home and had brunch.  We had dinner and started making a plan for Black Friday shopping.
We started on Thursday night.  We went with her friend Tonya and daughter Cortney.  Same as last year.  We were at Walmart by 9:45pm, Target by 10:45pm and at the mall by 12:15am.  We didn't leave the mall until 4:45am and then headed to JcPenny's home store until 6:30am.  We had breakfast at Mimi's and made it back home by 7:35am.  I showered and was in the bed by 8AM.  I may not ever go shopping with my Aunt AGAIN!  On Friday, her Kindle Fire arrived but she didn't open it. She asked if my Uncle had ordered her one and I told her yes.

When I returned, my uncle texted me and said that he had given her the Kindle Fire he had ordered that day as an early Christmas gift.  All was well with the world!

Sorry for the lengthy post but I had to get this all on "Paper"!

Have a great weekend!

Can't be true

Where in the world did NOVEMBER GO!

I can't believe that it is already December!  Oh well!  Let the Good times roll!

Thanksgiving was wonderful!  I was sad that I didn't get a chance to go to church but I was very happy that I spent the holiday with my family!  I had a GREAT time in PHX and the weather was Perfect!  I really need to move to a warm city!

I didn't sleep much last night and the only things that are keeping me sane are Anita Baker and Coconut Creme Coffee.  Here are a few pictures!  I will explain Later!

Thanking

Happy Thanksgiving (Almost)!  Thanksgiving is still my favorite holiday!  I am heading to Phoenix for Thanksgiving this year (just like last year)!  I wish that I could go home to see my Daddy, brother, Grammy, cousins, Aunts, Uncles and such but until I live back in the South that is not the case.  Phoenix is so much closer so that is where I will be and I am So glad that I have family who will let me come visit!  LOVE IT!  That is one thing that I can say about my family!  We are always so excited to see each other and it isn't a big deal to come for a visit!  Also, My Tootsie, who is my cousin in case you forgot, told me that she was chatting with a lady yesterday at work and said that it is time like these (the holiday season that is) that makes her miss me so much more.  The reason being because we would make MULTIPLE trips to the store for items that her mom or our grammy had forgot!

Also, I helped served a Pre-Thanksgiving Lunch on Sunday at our church.  We helped feel over 250 people and most of them were homeless.  It was such a humbling experience.  I forget and don't appreciate the fact that I have a job, had a car, have an apartment and know where I will be laying my head down at night.  God loves us all so much!  Thank HIM for EVERYTHING!  Even when you want to complain- Praise HIM!
I saw a couple there who had a little baby girl who wasn't older than one and I couldn't imagine being homeless and having a baby.  Broke my heart!

I have so much to be Thankful for!  And I am!

Love you!  Happy Thanksgiving~

A yucky Monday may lead to a better Tuesday

Yesterday was YUCKY!.  I am not referring to the weather instead I am talking about the day in general.  I should have stayed in bed all day and relaxed.  Instead, I got up and went to the JOB.  A BAD DECISION.  I had people in my face all day, a student who used my chap stick after I told them NO and a whole lot of JIGGLING.  Because of God, I somehow made it through the day and I think that getting some sleep helped me out.  Let's hope that Tuesday is better than Monday.

Last week I told you that I was going to try a new recipe for soup.  I Love LOVE LOVE The Pioneer Woman.  She is a red-head Oklahoma woman with 4 children who blogs and has a show on the Food Network.  Her recipes are GREAT and I love her sense of humor.  She had blogged about Sausage, Potato and Kale soup last month and I had really wanted to try it!  It is a version of what they serve at Olive Garden (zuppa tuscana). Her soup did not measure up to the OG version.  I was not impressed at ALL.  The only thing that I liked about her soup was the amount of potato's, other than that nothing worked for me.  I think this was a fluke!  I usually LOVE all of her recipes.  Check out her blog!

I am officially counting down the days until Christmas and Thanksgiving.  I need sometime with my fam.  The North has sucked the life out of me again and I need to be re-energized.

That is it for me~  I hope that you have a FANTASTIC Day!

Love you~

Food for the fall

I haven't had time to talk about food but that doesn't mean that I haven't had time for food.
Cold weather means hot soups, breads, warm drinks and such.  I cooked dinner last night and was really pleased with the outcome.  I wanted Steel head but it isn't in season right now so I settled for Salmon.  Steel head is a type of Salmon but not as fishy.  The Salmon was GREAT and has me thinking about making fresh Salmon Cakes or Salmon Croquettes.  I also roasted a sweet potato and zucchini.  The Sweet potato's that I have are so sweet.  I have only baked sweet potatoes and of course I know how to candy them but I was nervous about roasting them.  I read a few recipes and coated them with a little EVOO and the smallest amount of cinnamon and a little salt on a few pieces.  It was delish.

I have a recipe to make some Zuppa Tuscana- very similar to what they serve at Olive Garden.  I will post about that one (with pictures) soon!

I really want to make some cornbread and chili.  The only good thing about this chilly weather is that I can pull out recipes that remind me of my childhood.  My Grammy never made chili and cornbread together (that is something that I started liking in college).  My Grammy would serve it with crackers or Frito's.

I am seriously considering having a Friendsgiving Dinner Party.  I got the term Friendsgiving from the Real Housewives of New Jersey.  It is basically celebrating a Thanksgiving meal with your friends.  I have a few recipes that are worthy of some special attention.  But then I would have to cook a huge meal, decorate, clean and clean up.  OH Wait.  I like doing all of those things.  Well let me check my calendar to see if I have time.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Sliding into November

It amazes me that November is Here....  Blink your eyes and it will be Christmas!  I am ready for the Holiday Season!  So let's start with the Halloween pictures!

The first picture is my friends posing with Waldo.  I went out to dinner and dessert with Gribbs and CS (yummy sushi and decadent chocolate!) While walking to the restaurant, we spotted 2 Waldo's within 5 steps.  We thought it was strange but it was Halloween.  When we were going to the dessert bar, we spotted another Waldo.  We chatted with Waldo number 3 and he said they were part of a scavenger hunt!  Lovely!
Next is a picture of my little spider man.  The only reason that his picture is on the blog is because his face is covered!  His mamma (Sannie) would have my hide if I showed his face to the public!  I remember his first Halloween- he had two teeth and was a scare crow!  My how time zooms right by!  Last but not least is my VBP.  Queen B sent me a picture of my honey and told me that my nephew loved me!  Of course!

All plane tickets have been purchased for the remainder of the year.  My pockets are extra slim these days due to the excessive, expensive traveling that I have done this year.  I am praying for a Sugar Daddy or a winning lottery ticket this year!  Or better yet- a job that is within driving distance to those who I love the most!  Pray for me people!

I have no big plans this weekend.  I hate that I am even going to type this next sentence.  The meteorologist is saying that it might SNOW.  There is that ugly four letter word.  I hate it so Darn Much.  Snow is the worst four letter word.  YUCK!

Recently, I got a new phone.  iNdee had served me well and because I love my iPhone- I upgraded to the 4s.  It is great.  I have been facetiming with my brother, Kay May, Mimi, my Tootsie and more.  It makes my loved ones seem so much closer.  My new phones name is still iNdee.

I think that this serves as a wonderful update.  More from me later.  Please enjoy your weekend!

Someone loves you!

Falling for Fall

OH Yes... It is that time of the year again.  The time when I start hating mother nature because I really enjoy summer and having to deal with the fact that summer is gone and Fall is here!  I have been in denial for weeks that Fall was coming (quickly).  I wore some boots on Saturday and I had to embrace the fact that FALL was here.  The trees are changing, leaves are on the ground, mornings are crisp and cool and I am breaking out the sweaters.  OH Fall.  I don't want to Fall for you!  I like warm days, letting my windows down and my hair blowing!  I can only find one glove and have to buy new iPhone gloves this year since I have worn my others out!

I have been BUSY lately!  Very very busy.  I am working crazy hours and am suffering from headaches or eye twitching (depending on the day).  I need a good massage, a date night with my girls and a big bath tub.
The only thing I can do of those three things is get a massage, but my massage lady sold her business (so, I am SOL!)

I am gearing up for the Holidays.  I bought my ticket for Thanksgiving and have to purchase one more for Christmas.  I was hoping to have a New Years trip but my people always bail on you!

All of my fam is great!  Friends are great!  and in General, life is good!

Love~

An Even Ten

*This post should have been written and posted on Monday, October 10- Better late than never*

I guess I need to get a few things out there.  I know that I have a few readers who have stuck with me even though I only blog sporadically.  So here goes.

Monday, October 10 marked TEN years for me.  Ten years since my Mommy left me.  Time really flies by.
Ten years ago, I was in High school.  A teenager.  Happily addicted to MAC. Serving on Student Council.  Enjoying life.  And preparing myself for the day that I knew was going to come.  It's hard for me to share myself with the blog world.  Most of you know me on a personal level.  But not all of you knew me ten years ago.  I had experienced the lost of a loved one before- But losing a parent, especially when you are YOUNG, in Denial, invincible - words can't describe what you go through.

I often wonder what my life would be like if she was still here.  I truly can't imagine it.

My memories of my mom are still here.  The Good, the Bad and the Best.

Up and Away we go

My trip home was indeed PRICEY.  And I knew that I had to get home quick because I wanted to make sure that my Daddy was okay.  I usually fly Delta when flying home but Delta was having an Ego Trip and didn't want to work with me.  So I ended up flying on American (cheaper).  Overall, my trip back to the south was fine.  No delays.  No turbulence.  I would like to mention that I had been sick before I left.  Running a fever, runny nose, headaches and the rest of the blah.  I literally slept for 1 1/2 days.  After going up and down all day on planes, my nose was stuffed up and my head was back to pounding.  I was up for 20+ hours and by the time that I laid down, I had to get right back up to help with stuff.  I love when I first get off the plane at home and know that (whoever) is picking me up.  I had told my dad to get me but after calling him on his cell all day and not being able to reach him, I called my cousin and told her that if she couldn't get him to pick me up.  When I walked outside, there was my daddy in the truck.  I really love seeing that man. Because of my dad I know what it is like to love someone, be completely made at them and realizing that I still love them.  unconditional.  Yep.  That's it.
My trip back to the North was full of surprises.  First leg of the trip, an older lady who doesn't fly much, screamed when the wheels started going back in the plane.  Scared the crap out of me.  I should also mention, that I didn't eat until my 2nd leg of the trip and by then it was 4PM and I was so RUN down from the trip.  I think that I had low blood sugar.  I did see Jackie Joyner Kersee on my 2nd flight.  Oh my second flight departed late and I had a Tight Connect to begin with.  They requested that all 8 of us who were on that tight connect to leave first.  I ran from concourse C to A.  Haven't I mentioned that I was already sick?  By the time I got to my last flight, I was sweating and huffing and puffing.  But I made it.

Better Late Than Never

No need to apologize for my disappearance....  You will get use to it one of these days.  So Let me jump in get right to the point.

My life is full of ironic situations.  My Granny (my dad's mom) had not been in the best of health.  I saw her when I made my trip back home in April and it was different.  My Granny didn't talk to me AT ALL.  She looked at me and smiled and I tucked a blanket around her when she was sitting in the recliner.  I cried.  I mean, I really cried.  Boo hooed.  I sat there and talked to her and wiped tears.  I enjoyed seeing her but she wasn't the same Granny to me.  When I visited Home in July, I stopped by to see her.  She had a big appetite that day.  She didn't talk but she allowed me to help her take a sit at the table and eat.  Those are the last 2 times that I saw my Granny alive.

This year, on my Mom's B-day, My Granny was called to be with the Lord.  Life is a funny thing.  I have nothing but good memories of my Granny.  The fact that I am the first person that she stitched a name onto a quilt for, squeezing fresh orange juice because I don't drink Sunny D and just being such a lovely woman.  When my Mom passed, my Granny comforted me by saying that "God Loved her More".  Those were the best words that someone could have said to me at that time.  I think my Granny was pretty amazing, she gave birth to the Greatest Man in my world (My Pappy).

I traveled home for the services and that can only mean one thing - Airplane tour 2011!  More on that soon

Balloons for Kay May

Last year at this time, I was cleaning my house getting ready for Kay May to come visit me.  Kay May has been my only house guess to date while I have been living up north.  And if you read my blog last year you know that she dragged me out of the bed early in the AM to go see the hot air balloons.  Since she isn't here visiting me this year (I am bummed about that) I took a few pictures of the HAB so that she could have good memories!  KAY MAY~  Come visit me.  I could use a little piece of home!

Walked out of my apartment and see one balloon.

Driving to work and see more balloons.

Walking into work under balloons.

And a SKY full of Balloons for Kay May!

The balloons started my day off right!  I can't get this big smile to leave my face!  I hope that you have a great holiday weekend!

Back with the Program

School has officially started and we are currently at the end of week 2!  And I will go ahead and put it out there that it has been a successful 2 weeks.  I am looking very chocolatey right now.  ALL and I do mean ALL of my Welcome Week programs were outside so I am looking like a Hershey's girl right now!  Oh Well!  My color will fade soon.
My bulletin board at work has been proudly displaying my programs (mainly because we have a design team that creates award winning images!).  But now that all of my big programs are done, I can sit back and catch you up on life!

A few weeks ago, KSan and I went to the Soul Food Festival.  If you keep up with the blog, you will remember that last year we went and enjoyed some tasty soul food.  I licked my fingers this year over some fried fish!

It was sooo Good!  I also ordered some fries and fried okra.  Basically what I am telling you is that I had a fat girl heart attack day!  But it was worth it!  KSan ordered some WONDERFUL black eyed peas and cornbread

And some spicy fried chicken!  The peas have me wanting to fix a meal similar to my Grammy's...When I have some time, I will get in the kitchen on a Sunday and take it back to feeling like you are at HOME!

I was kind of disappointed with desserts.  KSan ordered some peach cobbler and I ordered sweet potato pie.  They were not my faves.  For my own record (and KSan) we ordered the food from B&B and the desserts from (?)  Also, people please do not expect to come to a festival at 5PM and think that the vendors will still have food.  It says SoulFood festival which means that it is being done by people of color and we tend to run out of food, start late and talk loud!  That might be stereotypical but please know that everything that I stated was true!

That is it for me!  I am so glad that I got to write a few little notes on what has been going on!  I also want to say thank you to everyone who helped with my Break Through!  Starting to feeling like the old me.

Love you!

Buckle up and hold on

I don't even think that I can find the words to express my feelings about school beginning in less than a week.  I am actually doing pretty well- have only had restless nights twice but I know the time is quickly approaching when I will be lucky to get any sleep at all.  I really love what I do but back to school is no joke!  So please keep me in your prayers.  I have so many pictures and food posts that I want to add to the blog but of course on the one day that I can steal a few moments to update you, I left iNdee the iPhone in the bed.  Clearly, he isn't ready for school to begin and took a day off.

Time is quickly passing me on by.  I am really thinking about taking a trip to Vegas in November.  I need to relax and unwind.  We shall see if this really happens.

My younger cousin got engaged this weekend.  I am so proud of her and want to wish her all of the best.  She is 21 and I can't even imagine being 21 and engaged.  I was more worried about myself and partying and all of that good stuff.  I can really say that I have grown so much over the past 5+ years and know that this will continue.

I will try my hardest to blog again but with school starting... that might not happen.

Why I am Thankful

I have been so whiney lately that I have decided to write a few things that I am thankful for.  I have been having a personal pity party for a while and in efforts to switch things up I figured that this could help me realize all that I have.

I'm thankful for:

Really Nice Weather... I went bike riding last week but also ate lunch outside 3 days this week because the weather has been Beautiful!  In the 80s to mid 90s
Really great friends who call and leave me messages.

A great family who calls every now and then to check on me

Diet Strawberry limeades at Sonic BUT only during happy hour
Straightened hair (even though it is dirty)
The summer season because the veggies and fruits are wonderful.
My Daddy!  After years of me harassing him, he decided to stop dipping!

My grandma who is out of the hospital

For God's love and forgiveness..... a fresh start everyday

I hope that you all have a great weekend!  My Kay May is now an AUNTIE!  Congrats honey!  I know that you will be a great auntie and spoil the baby rotten!

Hard lessons

I can NOT believe that it is the first of August... Where did the summer go.  School starts in 3 weeks and I am NO Where near ready for the madness.  I have no choice and will be getting ready soon.  I have been going thru a lot of  growing pains lately.  I have been ready for a change in my life (mostly scenery).  I have been learning new lessons from God and while I understand that I am growing and learning to Depend on him, I have been struggling.  This was one funk that I had a hard time shaking off.  But now I am finally feeling a little better, and even though I would LOVE to change scenery, see more diversity and be closer to home- I am trusting in HIM and trying to get it thru my head that He knows what He is doing.  Because if my life was just left up to me, I am pretty sure that I would have a baby or babies by a man who would be no good to me, at a low paying job (well I still am, I am in education ;-) )  and depending financially on someone other than myself.  So that has been what I have been dealing with for a couple of weeks.

I went bike riding on Saturday!  I am still sore... I haven't been on a real bike in YEARS.  Usually I am on the stationary bike at the gym.  I had so much fun.  I went with a friend from work and NOW I think that I want to buy a bike just for exercise.  A cheap bike....  I looked at the thrift store the other day...

Have a fabulous Monday

Trips

I continue to let large amounts of time slip by... (if you aren't getting enough of a fix you can always follow me on twitter!)

So what has been going on with me... I made a trip back home where is was hotter than blue blazes to celebrate my Grammy's 90th!  I am so blessed to have both of my Grandmother's!  They are both in their 90's and I thank God for allowing me to grow up and have them in so many wonderful memories!

So if I visited my Grammy then than means that I jumped on a plane... Surprisingly, I didn't have any major delays so I arrived home 15 minutes later than expected and back in the North 30 minutes later.  I have gotten so spoiled living in the North.  It gets warm here but because there is no humidity, I never really sweat.  I definitely sweated when I was at home in the South because when I landed the temp was 107 degrees!  Usually when I go home, I ride around town in my dad's old pick up truck.  The truck does not have AC and because of this my dad decided that I couldn't ride around town and rented me a car.  The rental car is much nicer than the car that I own.  I miss the rental!  I also miss my family!  This was the second time that I almost cried at the airport because it has gotten so hard for me to leave my family knowing that when I return to the North the only thing that I have to look forward to is an empty apartment and my job.  Please keep me in your prayers.  I am growing thru some growing pains!

Explaining a YEAR

I can't believe that I have been blogging for a year (tomorrow actually)!  Love it!  I am glad that I have hung in there even though I have wanted to throw the towel in a few times.  I love to look back on some older posts and see what I was up to!  Hoping that I blog more this year...

Yes it is true... I got an iPad 2.  But let me be clear.  I did not buy it.  It is a perk with the job.  It's mine as long as I work at my current job and the only expectation is that I use it as much as possible.  If you read my blog you have heard me call my iPhone- iNdee!  I have been racking my brain on what to call my iPad...I'm thinking Bull- short for iNcredible.  Your thoughts?

I hope that you all have a fabulous long holiday weekend.  I really wish that I was going to Essence Music Festival with KMM... She has backed out on me the last 2 years.

PS- I'm on twitter now...  You should follow me

One HUNDRED

Let's celebrate!  This is my 100th blog!  I can't believe it!!!!  Thank you for sticking with me.  I know that I don't blog enough, that my topics aren't the best and my grammar is not up to par but HEY!  I am trying!  So you might be wondering what is going on in my world?

I had lunch with a FABULOUS student the other day.  A bright, intelligent, beautiful young lady who is a new cadet at the United States Military Academy at West Point.  Her first day was yesterday!  She starts "basic training" tomorrow and will have limited access to telephones (and no communication by email, FB for 6 weeks).  So I promised that I would send her some letters!  I love receiving snail mail... especially when the only thing everyone usually gets is just a bill.  Such a wonderful feeling opening the mail box and realizing that someone has taken the time to write you a quick note!  My student was talking about how nervous she was to be starting a new journey and not knowing what she would be doing once graduation occurs in 4 years.  I assured her that she has nothing to worry about.  She will succeed.  I would bet my MAC collection on her (and let me tell you that my MAC collection is a little pricey!).  I kind of remember what it's like to be right on the verge of starting a new chapter in your life and not knowing what is going to happen.  Very proud of this young lady!

My Big Headed loving older brother (who I have not mentioned on here in a while) had a birthday on Sunday!  I love him so and hope that he had a wonderful day.  I haven't seen him since December and I promised him that the next time I see him that I would cook for him!

Tootsie, congratulations on your 2nd Wedding anniversary!  Your marriage has lasted longer than some Hollywood marriages!  haha

That is it from me today... But I will be back tomorrow with much more!

All the Single Ladies

A few weeks ago I was catching up with a friend and I asked her if she had a Boo (boyfriend, honey, love interest).  She quickly told me that it hadn't worked out with the last guy and that she was (yet again) alone.  This friend (we will call her Lisa)  is a great catch.  She is educated, GORGEOUS, a God fearing woman and a COMPLETE Catch!  Yet she is in the ugly category of being a SINGLE Lady because most of her friends are married and making babies.  How well do I understand and sympathise!  The majority of my friends are married, engaged, shacked up and have kids... It is an ugly place to be in life when everyone is moving along and you are not!

I told Lisa that I would pray for her.  She is moving along in her career and is probably feeling like she is missing that one thing: a mate!  I know a lot of FABULOUS single ladies who are wondering when their Prince Charming will show up.  I would love to tell you soon but that may not be the case.  Once upon a time I wondered the same thing (still do some days) and then I think- Why worry!?  I had been searching deep for answers and then got tired of searching and tried HIM.  Oh HIM...  God.  Such a wonderful person to trust.  I have never ever been a patient person and like for things to go on my timeline.  This is not the case when you ask for God to take control of your life.  I still pray for HIM to send me the perfect man that He has for me.. but until that day comes, I will spend time with HIM.

So, All you Single Ladies, that are reading my blog... Know that I am praying for you.  Dale, Lil Bit, Lisa and more!  Praying that you will receive your Blessing!  I love you!

Sneaking Around

Happy Monday!

Sort of I guess.... I am not a fan of Monday's but this one wasn't too bad.  I am suffering from allergy problems.  I went walking/hiking the other night and I have not been able to get my allergies under control since.  If my meds don't start doing their job soon then I will be forced to go to the allergy/sinus doctor.  Not looking forward to that.

I had fun this weekend...  I went to the farmer's market on Saturday and looked at tons of fresh veggies.  I really want some okra but it is not the time to buy that yet.  While at the farmer's market, I bought a crepe and had the chance to catch up with a former student employee.  She reminded me that sometimes you have to endure the wrong, ugly, bitter world.  As much as I want for things to go my way, I know that God throws curve balls at me to see what I will do.  I will TRUST HIM.. Love HIM and not IGNORE him.

Next, I went to my friend Tiff's daughter bday party.  Kams (that is what I call her) was turning six and was thrilled to be having her bday party at one of the local Chuck E Cheese type places.  Her older brother was turning 13 and was also there with a few of his friends!  I had a great time slicing and serving bday cake, taking pics and holding Tiff's baby girl!

Sunday was a busy day... went to Church, shopping at Costco and Walmart.  My favorite student worker graduated in May and she came on over.  I wanted to make her dinner and catch up on life.

what did YOU do this weekend????   I managed to stay out of the mall but found out on a great deal online and did just a little shopping.  All items were needed so that is how I justified the purchase.

Words and no worries

3 pictures this week... All randomly selected from iNdee the iPhone.  I really wish Apple would release iPhone 5 so I could get an upgrade.  I don't want to purchase 4 when 5 should be here by now.  I hope the rumors are true and September is the Month.  Again, patience is not my friend!

Picture numero uno is some perfume!  I am not a shopper.  These days, I purposely stay out of the mall because I am afraid that I would become addicted and engage in a bad case of retail therapy.  I had to return an item and was walking through Macy's when I stopped to smell Beyonce's Heat Rush scent.  I had tried to purchase it once before at Dillards but the sale's lady was RUDE to me and I left without making the purchase.  The sales lady at Macy's was very nice.  I told her that I was not there to purchase, just to smell and of course she wanted to let me know about the deal that they had going on.  You received a full size bottle of perfume, and 3 free gifts.  I told her the deal breaker for me was that I wanted a sample size of the Heat Rush.  She asked her Manager if that was okay and I got my deal... for cheap!  I love good customer service and free gifts!

Picture number 2 is of cat window... I blogged about cat window last year and it still continues now.  The cat usually greets me every morning when I arrive for work.

Picture number 3 is of a fortune cookie that I received when I was with KMM...

I can't believe that I have blogged 3 times this week!  Yay for me!  Have a great Thursday

Catch me if you Can

Hope that you enjoyed the pictures of the food....  I guess that I should explain (all pictures were taken at Loveless Cafe from my iPhone).

KMM knows about my foodiness (not really a word but I will use it today) and asked me if there were any restaurants that I wanted to try in TN.  I couldn't think of any and after googling to see if any Top Chef contestants had a restaurant (the answer is NO- although there is speculation that the next round of contestants does have one from Nashville).  I told her she could pick all of the places.  There are 2 places that stick out in my mind so let's start with Loveless Cafe.  Heaven help you!  If you get a chance to go please stop and try their DELICIOUS biscuits~!  They were wonderful and the preserves (jelly) that served with them are all home made and sooo yummy!  I had fried catfish, fried green tomatoes and fried okra (obviously I wanted to have a heart attack that day)!  Everything was great!  KMM had fish, greens and mac-n-cheese.  The greens weren't the best...neither was the mac-n-cheese.

The next place would be Monells.  Again, this place was wonderful.  KMM had mentioned Monells before and said that I would love it but I blew her off.  The restaurant was family style and was ridiculous.  They served : fried fish, ribs, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn pudding, rolls and cornbread, green beans, greens, white beans, cucumber salad, banana pudding and more.  The place is worth your time and money!  All you can eat for around $16.  Worth every penny!

I am surprised that I didn't come back as big as a house but I made it!  So there you go... 2 great southern style restaurants for you to try in Nashville!

Ten for Ten

I had a GREAT time is Nashville and decided to give you a top ten list!

10-  I don't have to deal with humidity since I have moved to the north... But once I landed in Nashville, humidity reminded me why we had been enemies.  Big hair!

9- Central Time Zone.  My body is on sync with Central Time Zone.  My body automatically knows when it is back on Central Time Zone and reminds me that it loves it!

8- Diversity-  It was soooo NICE to go to the mall, wal-mart, and any restaurant and be greeted by people of color...  All colors and not just one.  I forgot what it was like to see strangers who still speak.  I love Southern Hospitality

7-  Bible Belt...  It is kind of comforting driving down the street and seeing at least 2 churches on every street.  It is nice to know that God is still important to some people.

6-  Being able to see my nephew for the first time.  I love my children and all of my friends are doing their part to make sure that the world stays populated!

5- I am the parent.  it does not matter that even when the kids that I am carrying aren't biologically mine that someone thinks that I am the real parent!  It never fails!

4-  Vacation... Even though I was in Nashville for graduation, I was using it as vacation so that I could relax and unwind from a very fast paced school year.  Of course that didn't happen.  KMM had plans for me to come and put in work.  And I was happy to help out my friend/sister!

3- Food.  There is nothing like soul food!  (will do a separate post about 2 great restaurants later)!  But I know that I am back in the south when EVERYWHERE you go serves Sweet Tea!

2-  Friends.  It felt sooo good to be around friends!  They had me laughing the whole trip!  A special Shout out to Mister P for making sure that the giggles never stopped!

1- The best thing was watching my bff KMM walk across the stage and become a doctor!  And then seeing her actual diploma!  YOU GO GIRL!

That is it for me today!  Stay tuned for more sometime soon!  (I would put tomorrow but I would feel horrible if I don't blog tomorrow)

Trouble in the Air

I think that I might start doing this regularly...  Talking about the good and bad of airlines and the troubles that I encounter (almost) everytime that I fly.

My flight was scheduled to leave at 3:30.  I made it to the airport on time, got stopped by security (not because I had Scentsy stuff in my bag but because of my Nook), and made it to the gate with time to spare.  They announced that it was a full flight and asked if anyone would like to check their bags, free of charge to their destination.  I took them up on that offer and started to RELAX.  I had checked the weather in Nashville and figured that I would have a great flight.  WRONG!  My connecting flight was in Denver and they were having some Weird Storm.  They boarded us on the flight on time and then made us WAIT.... I fell asleep and woke up and realized that we had not moved.  I was worried that I would miss my flight.  We finally left at 5 and I made it to my connecting flight without any worries.  The only downside was that I was supposed to have an 1 1/2 hour delay meaning that I could grab some dinner.  That did not happen and I was SO SO Hungry on my flight into Nashville.  I flew on Frontier this trip and I was impressed.  The plane had TVs in every headrest where you could swipe a card and either watch movies or 24 channels of TV.  Because the first flight delay was so long they let us watch TV for free... I got caught up on Law and Order: SVU.  The plane was new and they served warm chocolate chip cookies at the end of every flight... They really know how to make me smile.
When I landed in Nashville, I was told to pick up my luggage at carousel 6... which did not exist because of renovations.  They had everyone wandering around wondering where to pick up their luggage.  KMM was glad to see me and quickly took me to get something to eat.

On my returning flight, I tried to check in online.  That didn't work and had to arrive at the airport early.  They told me that my flight to Denver was delayed because of WEATHER and my flight would be leaving an hour late.  I started to get worried that I wouldn't make my connecting flight and then I thought (God has this.. no need to worry).  I literally got off the plane and quickly walked 3 lanes over to catch my flight home.  They were calling all seats, all rows when I walked up.

More on Nashville on Tuesday.  Enjoy your 3 day weekend.  Happy Memorial Day.

Too Much fun in TEN

The TEN that I am referring too would be Nashville, TN.  KMM, who I have mentioned before on the blog, is my bff from high school.  Her mom was an assistant principal at the junior high school that my mom taught classes.  KMM thought I was stuck up because I did not talk to her, once we had class with each other and we began chatting she realized that she liked me and we have been friends ever since.
That was over 10 years ago and though we have bad times, our good times are HILARIOUS!  I flew to Nashville because KMM was graduating from Dental school and would officially be a Dentist- My first Doctor friend.  I hadn't seen KMM since her wedding in April '10 and since that time she had a baby Boy.  Boy how time flies on by.  I had a GREAT time and I even have pictures to share.....  and of course a story about the airlines and all of the trouble that I face when flying to the south....

Let me catch up

Thank you Jesus! You allowed me to make it through a wonderful school year! The last month and a half have been BUSY (BUSY BUSY)... but because you are so Wonderful, you got me through.

I did not think that I would make it but I did and now I can catch my breath and enjoy a little summer fun! So much has been going on and of course I haven't had time to blog but I do now so let's catch up!

KMM will be graduating this weekend so I will be jumping on a plane to be at the festive occasion (plus I need to meet her little man)! As a kid, I would attend Vacation Bible School (VBS) at the church down the street from my childhood home. My Aunt served as Director and would REQUIRE for her relatives to attend. I have some great memories, one being a song that she would make us sing (Vacation Bible School is here- Tra-La Tra-La Tra-La).... At the church that I attend now, they made an announcement that were looking for people to help and I signed up to help. The lady asked me if I wanted to be the Director and I quickly told her NO! But I think that I could handle the arts and crafts... or maybe teach the little kids! I will keep you posted!

I have tons more to tell you but I have other things that need my attention... I will be blogging at least 3 days this week! Check back for more

Let me Explain

Hope that you liked the pictures on Wednesday!  Let me explain....

Picture #1 was from a kid at the J-O-B...  Lacey has stopped by my office twice this week wearing socks with open toed shoes.  I was speechless when I saw this and cracked up when I heard her explanation.  She stated that her internship requires her feet to be covered and since these shoes were the most professional she wears socks with them.  Her pants are long so no one ever knows... Interesting.

Picture #2 is from Sannie.  All of the rain in the south meant flooding.  Sannie sent it to me this week and said that it was the parking lot at her job.  I told her that she needed some rain boats.  And possibly a Boat.

Picture #3 is from Kay May... who a month ago went to Mexico and had a little vacay.  I wish that I could go on a vacay... Anyone who is interested in going on a tropical vacation please leave a comment.  (I am being serious).

I hope that you all have a great weekend.  I am working the next 3 weekends in a row.... I am so ready for graduation and I am not the one graduating...

Fun Friday (A Week Later)

A week ago at this time I was in my hometown popping up and surprising my family and friends.

After the lengthy plane tour, I got to hang out with Sannie.  We went to Denny's and giggled at the drunkards.  I love having friends who I know love me for me.  It's been rather difficult for me to live up north and not have friends (let me be specific).  Friends who want to hang out, come over to eat or just be silly.  I enjoyed EVERY moment that I got to spend at home with them because Lord knows when or if that will happen again.

On Friday I got up and Sannie dropped me off at Kay May's.  This is how much I love Kay May:  When she visited me in September she bought some Scentsy.  Well actually she bought the Wal-Mart brand (Scentsational)!  As luck would have it, she fell in love with a particular scent, Guava Berry, and requested that I bring her $20 worth of it when I returned home.  I had no problem doing that for Kay May but I did not intend to get stopped going thru Security at the Airport because they didn't know what it is was.  I also didn't appreciate the fact that they checked my bag!  What people do for their loved ones!  Kay May allowed me to use her car so that I could drive down to my hometown and surprise my:  Pappy, my grandma's, aunts, cousin, Mimi, Queen B and her little one.  I hate that my visit was SO Short but I am so thankful that I got a chance to see my people.  I love surprising people and that is why people were not notified of me coming into town....

After home, I jumped back on the road so that I could return the car to Kay May.  Sannie picked me and I surprised 2 of my friends who had no clue that I was in town.  Their response to me was worth it!  We went to the mall and got pedicures.  I also got a Shellac manicure.  I was not a big fan.  We went out that night!  It was so nice catching up with people that you haven't seen in years...

That is it for me... Can't believe that I blogged 3 times this week!  More about the trip later...

Love

The Tour

It might be a miracle that I have found the time to blog again this week... or might be that I am sick and not feeling like myself today...

I have mentioned before that I am a fan of Fabulous Customer Service.  I had a terrible encounter with a not so nice lady yesterday... I don't understand why people hire rude employees.  I prayed for the woman this morning.  One monkey don't stop no show... I told the devil to get behind me because I have too much going on to be bothered by foolishness...  Enough about that!

So I went HOME last Thursday.....  I worked until 1 and then went home to pack and clean up before I headed to the south.  I had looked at the weather beforehand and knew that there was a chance for thunderstorms.  Kay May warned me when I was sitting in the Airport about the severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings.  I knew but I didn't know what to expect.  My flight to Denver was great, no problems.  My flight from Denver into HOME left on time.  The pilots told us that yes there were storms but we should not have any problems.  All was well until about 30 minutes before the flight should have landed.  The pilots told us that we were waiting to start our descent because of the storms.  Again- NO problem.  We finally started descending... 5 minutes before we should have been on the ground the stewardist (does society still call them that?) gets on the intercom and says that the pilot has decided to turn around because the weather has turned bad quick....  I was extremely happy to have a pilot to know when to turn around...  I was not prepared for the rest.  We diverted to Tulsa Oklahoma.  We landed safely (Thank you Lord).  I should also mention that I'm not a fan of flying.  Because I live so far from family and friends, I have to fly if I want to see them.  I have learned to live with it.  I don't hate it anymore and I give God the glory on that one.  I know that when I am in the clouds, air, WHEREVER!, that he is keeping me safe.  I Trust HIM!  Anywho, we landed in Tulsa to wait for the storm to pass before heading back to our original destination.  We were on the ground for about 20 minutes before Top Flight Security, Airport Security pull up in their trucks with their lights shining inquiring about emergency landing.  They really expected the pilot to open the plane's door.  Our stewardist, Bryan, was wonderful.  He was full of jokes and tried to take care of us.  There was a man who was a row over from me who was HORRIBLE.  He kept complaining about wanting to drink (Bryan could not give him an alcoholic beverage because we were on the ground- Apparently airlines only have licenses to serve liquor when in the air!)  The rude man also kept playing his loud ring tones that were very inappropriate.  I called Sannie as soon as we landed in Tulsa and told her about what had happened.  She was so glad that I was Safe.  She waited for me at the airport for 3 hours!  That's love!  We finally got refueled and landed safely at our intended destination at 1:45AM.  I should have been there at 10:45PM.  The flight should have only lasted for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Hope that you are haivng a GREAT day.... more from me later

Where my Heart Belongs

I have been told by a couple of people that I should be doing better about updating this blog of mine.  I apologize every time that I do get the chance to blog.  I promise you that if I had the time to blog more I would be the J-O-B is keeping me busy and tired....  Bare with me please.  Graduation is on May 14 and maybe then I will have a little more free time....

I might have mentioned a month or so ago that I had a surprise for you... It was more like a surprise for myself.  A couple of people had been harassing me about attending Black Alumni Weekend at my Alma Mater.  I had no intention of going.  There were people that I did not want to see and felt like it was too much money to spend on just a weekend trip (because it is so expensive to fly down to the south).  My friend Sannie called and inquired if I was coming and I told her no.... she called back and few days later and "ASKED" me to attend.  That was all it took....  I made it happen

So I flew into town on Friday morning (morning being 1:45AM).  I assure you my flight story is a blog post by itself.

I had a GREAT time seeing my friends- Let me be specific.  My real friends... My girls, the friends that I chose to be friends because we love each other and aren't forced to be friends because its convenient. I think that it may have been the best money that I Have spent in a while (other than the money for my memory foam).

That is all for today.  I will try my hardest to blog again this week... Keep your fingers crossed

Winning, Venting and Close to the Edge

I assure you that Friday cannot get here fast enough.  I am not wishing my life away but I really need a break.  My nerves are shot and my patience has been tested all week long (by kids, a friend, coworkers, everyone).

Last Friday, I was Winning!  Everything was going my way.  Bought some items on sale, had a fabulous lunch with 2 wonderful ladies, got to spend some time holding babies and even went to the mall...I even snuck in a visit to get my toes done!

I worked the Powwow this weekend.  I love the powwow.  It is probably the event that I look forward to the most.  I love the beat of the drums, the beautiful regalia and wonderful fry bread.  But when I say that I worked that event... I mean it.  And because this is busy season there is no way to take a day or two off and regroup.

I Must have "Please come and mess with me!" written on my forehead because certain people are wanting to test me this week.  I have had a student try me twice.  And then one of my friends wanted to add a snippy comment.  I am sure that she wasn't trying to be rude.  I try to realize that everyone is not the same and to love everyone but good grief.

I am close to the edge... the edge of a small melt down.   I am glad to see signs of Spring... a few sunny days, bright colors and pretty flowers.

So there you have it... An update on what's going on.  I apologize for the lack of positivity...

KMM had her little prince almost 2 weeks ago!  And is enjoying motherhood!

Also, please pray for my Grandma (not my Grammy- though you can pray for her too!)  She has been in the hospital.

Love

Just for Fun

Happy Friday....  I feel like this week flew by.  No complaints about that.  I am off this weekend and I plan to enjoy every second of it(I have to work next weekend so I won't be off again until Saturday, April 9).  A quick baby update:  KMM is in the hospital and should have Prince T today or tomorrow!  Praying for you KMM!

Here go a few random thoughts....

1. March 2nd was Dr. Seuss's birthday so...do you like green eggs and ham? Okay - how about this instead...how do you like your eggs?
I like eggs... My favorite way is sunny side up and preferably served on top of some Hawaiian fried rice at Ono.  Although one of my friends just had a burger and had them serve the egg sunny side up (I was so jealous because it looked so GOOD)!  If I am cooking them than it's typically just egg whites.

2. Is March coming in like a lion or something less ferocious where you live?
March came in like a lion... and is leaving like one too!

3. Do you work better or worse under pressure?
I really feel like I am at my best when I am under pressure.  That might be why I have been so productive this month.  I am getting things done and trying my hardest to stay on top of the ball!  But things do suffer (ahem, my blog).

4. Under what circumstances do you do your best thinking?I do my best thinking in the weirdest places.  Typically, when I am taking a shower, laying in bed thinking about what's on the agenda for the next day or driving down the street.  I do love talking to people and bouncing ideas off of them and feeding off of their energy.  My energy needs to be pepped up a bit.

5. What item of clothing from your wardrobe do you wear most often?Work clothes don't count so I would say my sweats... When I come in from work, my sweats know that they have to keep me happy and comfortable until time for bed!

6. Do you use sarcasm? Not really

7. Insert your own random thought here...I have so many!  Just thanking God for all of my blessings!  My not have everything that I want or be where I would like to...but thankful.

Have a great weekend!

Ignoring Time

An early morning meeting got canceled today leaving me with a few minutes to blog to YOU!  Someone must have known that my blogging duties are not up to par and knew that you needed an update!  So here  goes?!?

I received the CUTEST birth announcement in the mail last week!  My VBP (Vanilla Bean Prince) looks so cute!  Thanks Queen B for sending me one!  I love receiving mail that is NOT a bill!  Also, My Kay May, who is taking some R&R on the beach this week, sent me a funny card!

I have made some great low cal recipes lately.  Turkey Meatballs & spaghetti and BBQ Turkey Joe's.  Delicious and filling!  I tried adding the links but it is not working... Let me know if you are interested!

This weekend, I went to an International Food Song and Dance Festival... I had a great time seeing students dressed in their home country's attire!  So many different cultures... Amazing!  They served food that the students had prepared for dinner.  A welcomed treat since one can get burned out on banquet chicken and veggies.

KMM should be having her little prince any day now!  She is acting like the READY pregnant woman who wants to get the baby out right THIS minute!  I keep telling her to be patient!  He will be here soon!

My Pappy is missing me (nothing new) he keeps asking me when I am coming home for someones wedding...  I am not in anybody's wedding so maybe just wishful thinking... But he could be right... You never know when I will pop up!  I love keeping people on their toes!

That's it for me!  I have WORK to do!

Love you!

Marching thru March

The month of March is almost up!  And this is the first time that I have blogged the whole month!

So what's new with me?  Nothing new....  The J-O-B is kicking my behind.  I am just trying to hold on until graduation.  So far so good!

This weekend I went to the movies and saw Unknown with my friend Tiffany!  One of the best movies that I have seen in a LONG time!  If you find yourself wanting to go to the movies please check it out...  It is definitely a Redbox rental but if you have some extra dollars then head to the theater.

I made a wonderful BBQ sloppy Joe recipe the other day!  It was easy, quick and super tasty!  I will add the recipe tomorrow (let's pray about that)!

Anywho... That is it for me
